Am I Just Convenient?

A healthy self-image begins with one’s perception that he can perform many tasks, but there are other tasks that will confound him. Among those tasks that one can execute, there will be some which he excels (as an expert), some which he does well, and others that are completed only by the minimum requirements. An individual’s self-image is healthy when he accurately differentiates those tasks which he excels from those which he completes minimally.

At work, often coworkers flatter me with compliments of how well I do one task or another. One such task is refilling the toner in the copy machine. I have accomplished this task several times—each without spilling the toner on the internal parts of the machine, the floor, or myself. People have waited a weekend to ask me to change the toner on Monday! My coworkers also praise my extraordinary strength as they also tell me the water bottle on the cooler in the break room needs to be changed.

My coworkers compliments are very nice—I enjoy them. However, I have come to realize that we go through many bottles of water and I saw an empty toner box near the copier that I did not change. Am I allowing the compliments of my coworkers motivate me to complete the task and do it quickly? I think I have been duped by my coworkers to completing tasks that they need done quickly but are unwilling or unable to perform. I am not the only individual that can perform these tasks—I am just the most convenient!

Expectations Too High?

A recent conversation I had with a friend prompted me to ask myself whether my expectations for the woman I am to marry are too high. Early in our conversation, my friend stated that she felt as though she was tainted because her life experiences have pushed her to raise her expectations for the guy she plans to marry. She was wondering whether these heightened expectations were reasonable and I assured her they were.

Upon further self-examination, I began to wonder whether or not my expectations are reasonable. Now, I know a completely different friend has only placed one requirement for those she dates—they have to be from a country other than the United States. To me, that seems unreasonable even though it is only one requirement. I have many more requirements, but they seem so prohibitive. My question remains: Am I looking for a woman who does not exist?

I need some feedback friends. Let me know if these requirements are too restrictive: Active Christian, Smart, A Sense of Humor, Loving of People and Children, Morally Pure, and Beautiful. Please give me feedback, but not anonymously—I want to know who you are!

Have You Seen Her

I just wanted to remind everyone that I posted a job description, err, a list of qualities I expect in a future wife. The blog post was titled "That Kinda' Girl" in August of 2005. I was just wondering if any of you guys have seen a girl like that lately. If so, why have you not sent her my way?

Friend Talk

Well, some have asked and I’m sure many have silently wondered about my #1 friend spot on my myspace. If you didn’t notice, I have placed a copy of my Top Friends above so you can see.

To some it is simply desperation and to others it is desperation with a stroke of genius. However you classify it, most want some type of an explanation. The requests usually asks who is it, who did it, and why.

First, there is no actual person right now that is soon going to fill out that gray silhouette, but someone I know now may fill out that picture later. Next, I was the one who created that profile. Finally, I did it because I was frustrated that so many people had their spouse as their #1 friend and I had a family member. I wanted the world (at least the myspace world) to know that I was actively looking for my Top Friend.

Thanks

I want to mention how grateful I am for all those that called and wished me birthday greetings on Wednesday. I think I only talked to my mom, but Chris, Benji, Matt, and Alissa called, while Leanne and Patti dropped notes. Well, that covers all the people on my top 8 friends list, except two (see below). I need to tell Heidi that this seriously jeopardizes her status on my list! Well thanks again.
