Evacuation Plan

With the inauguration of hurricane season a little more than a month away, New Orleans area officials are scurrying to establish the city’s new evacuation plan and inform the public of how to utilize it. Below are some of the pictures of the implements of the system—boats.

If the floodwaters inundate the city once again, citizens should locate the strategically located boats, climb aboard, and float to safety. This plan is cost effective because it employs the same boats that were used in the aftermath of Katrina and have yet to be removed.

Fun in the Quarter

This morning my parents and I decided to get some beignets and café au lait for breakfast. While we were in the quarter, we made a morning of it. First we walked through the French Market and then doubled back toward Jackson Square. There were a lot of people in the Quarter today because it was the final day of the French Quarter Festival. We did spend some time walking down Royal Street, but finally ended up back at the Jax Brewery where we ate lunch. We had a great time! Here are some pictures.

The Apartment and The Weekend

The apartment is really coming together. This week I got cable and internet—they are supposed to be installing telephone service this afternoon. It appears as though all of the fighting I have been doing to get normal services is over and I can begin to really start settling into my apartment. So here are some pictures of my apartment, for all those who have not decided to visit.

Also, this is the first weekend I have off of work that I have stayed here in New Orleans. I have been traveling back to my parent’s house every Friday that I did not work the rest of the weekend. This has given me a little extra time to do, well, nothing. I’m just relaxing so far this weekend, but my parents are coming this afternoon. We will probably spend some time in the Quarter or something, but whatever we do, I will take pictures and probably share them with you.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Today I went to UL’s “Turn Back the Clock” baseball game. This is an interesting thing they do every couple of years close to the Spring time change. They “turn back the clock” with the uniforms and with the prices at the concession stand—dollar hot dogs will get me to the baseball game any day. As a fundraiser, after the game they sell the jerseys at an auction right on the field.

The day was beautiful and UL won, so it was a great day at the park. Below are some pictures of the game!
